How To Change The Name Of An Investment

In this article, you will learn how to change the name of an investment in Arch

Updated over 9 months ago

There are multiple reasons why an Arch user would want to change the legal name of an investment:

  • The fund could have been acquired, changing the legal name of the holding.

  • The investment was originally onboarded with a misspelled/incomplete name

  • Etc.

Arch values accurate and consistent data, and we use the legal name of an investment for our holding names, so we block the ability to make changes through the Arch user portal. If you would like to change an investment name, please reach out via Intercom chat or email support@arch.co. Our team is happy to look at our investment database, documents, and fund communications to ensure that changes are consistent and accurate.

Beyond changing the legal name of an investment in Arch, there are other reasons that an Arch user would want to change the name of a holding:

  • The user has internal nicknames for investments that they are looking to utilize on Arch.

  • The completely wrong (Example Fund I vs Example Fund II) holding within a fund was onboarded.

  • Etc.

Arch does allow users to make changes in these cases. There are 2 workflows:

  1. Adding a nickname

  2. Creating a new holding within a firm/sponsor

How To Add a Nickname

  1. Navigate to the Info tab of any holding-specific page in Arch

  2. Input an Alias/Nickname in the corresponding text box in the Holding section

  3. Click the Save button that will appear at the bottom right of your screen when you input the nickname/alias

This nickname/alias will now appear in parenthesis next to the investment name on the holding-specific page and the Holdings page.

How To Create a New Holding Within a Fund

  1. Navigate to the Info tab of any holding-specific page in Arch

  2. Select the Investment Name dropdown list in the Holding section.

    1. If the correct holding name already exists in Arch, you can select the name from the dropdown.

    2. If the holding name does not exist, you can type out the new name and select "Create"

  3. Click the Save button that will appear at the bottom right of your screen when you've changed the Investment Name or created a new name

IMPORTANT: Only create an entirely new holding within the Firm/Sponsor if it does not exist. Please do not create a new holding in the firm/sponsor if you are just trying to change a misspelled investment. Examples:

  • DO create a new holding if we onboarded Example Fund I, LP but it should be Example Fund II, LP

  • DO NOT create a new holding if we onboarded Example Fund I but it should be Example Fund I, LP

Additionally, if the Firm/Sponsor is correct, you are not able to change/correct this through the Arch portal. If you attempt to make an edit to the Firm/Sponsor you will receive this error:

"Changes were not saved: Arch communicates with your funds via anonymized email addresses to keep your identity secure. The requested investment change requires updating the email on record with the fund. Your account manager will make the change as soon as possible and update your account accordingly. Thank you for your patience. If you do not know why you received this error, please contact support."

If a change should be made to the Firm/Sponsor, please reach out via Intercom chat or email support@arch.co so that we can take a closer look at the data.
