Why are Financial Values not Calculating?

In this article, you will learn how to ensure holding financials will calculate

Updated over 11 months ago

In your Holdings page, you may see line items with an asterisk or no value. Or, a new Statement, Cash Flow, or Financial Value is not changing the Holding value the way you would expect.

There are 2 reasons these values might not appear/calculate as expected:

  1. The investment is not Linked & no information has been uploaded manually.

If the individual holding you are looking into has only recently been added to Arch, there is an 3-4 week timeline to set up access with the managing fund. Until we can access the necessary data, information will not be uploaded. However, Arch users can upload statements and data manually. If neither of these have occurred, the data in Arch will be asterisks or zeros.

  2. There is no Account Statement or starting value for the investment.

In Arch, Account Statements will always populate financial values with their "As Of" date. On the other hand, Cash Flows need a preceding Value to add or subtract from, therefore, an investment with only cash flows and no account statement processed will show data in Arch as asterisks or zeros.

  3. There is a Financial Value(s) uploaded to the holding with a more recent "As Of" date. Account Statements or edits made to a holding's financial values will always override statements and cash flows from before the most recent "As Of" date.

How to Fix

Both issues can be resolved by uploading Account Statements or adding Financial Data to Arch. To ensure Cash Flows affect investment values after the fact, make sure that the statement date occurs before the cash flow activity.
